From next year all those who carry out letting agency work in Scotland will be required to register with Scottish Ministers and abide by a statutory code of practice.
The Scottish Government has published a letting agent registration guide to assist letting agents to understand what their business needs to do to prepare for registration including the minimum level of training they must meet to be admitted. The guide can be found at www.mygov.scot/letting-agent-registration.
The Scottish Government’s Letting Agent Regulation Team will also be holding a series of registration information events around Scotland in collaboration with the Council of Letting Agents (CLA) over the coming months. These will be open to all letting agents operating in Scotland. Further information on these and how to book will be publicised shortly.
The CLA will be publishing a new range of documents later this year to assist member agents in complying with their new statutory duties. In the meantime we encourage all agents to ensure that any staff who need to obtain a qualification or training as part of the registration requirements enrol on a training course as soon as possible.
Landlord Accreditation Scotland (LAS), in partnership with the Chartered Institute of Housing (CIH), offers a professional development programme called LETWELL which has been created specifically for Scottish letting professionals.
